Why train with us?
The SCITT is managed by the Headteachers of the partnership schools who are fully committed to the SCITT achieving the highest standards and have a very direct interest in the quality of training provided by the SCITT. All trainees receive a high level of individual support from tutors and mentors and many of the SCITT's successful trainees gain their first teaching post in these schools or other local schools.

A measure of the success of the course is the very high number of trainees successfully gaining QTS at the end of each year and being offered full time employment as teachers. The SCITT also receives extremely good feedback about the quality of support and training from the Newly Qualified Teacher surveys and surveys of employers of our ex-trainees.

The TDA performance profiles site allows prospective trainees to compare performance profile data and NQT survey data from the Leicester and Leicestershire SCITT with data from other local or national ITT providers and is it is recommended that prospective trainees view this data to compare the performance of the SCITT with other ITT providers.

The key features of Leicester and Leicestershire SCITT are:
a broad range of teaching contexts in successful schools in a close geographical location;
a consortium, which draws on a considerable pool of expertise in Initial Teacher Training within the group of schools. The small and cohesive nature of this group will allow close, effective evaluation and support of the trainees' work;
the attraction of a wide field of quality applicants from all groups, including ethnic minority communities, men, classroom assistants and NNEBs;
the immersion of trainees in teaching and learning through linking current theory with effective tried and tested classroom practice;
assignments and portfolio tasks that offer research that will extend knowledge and test understanding of the nature of high quality teaching and learning;
an opportunity to gain a PG Cert in the Study of Primary Education, accredited by the University of Wolverhampton, as an integral part of the course;
relevant and up-to-date school based experience, working alongside existing, effective practitioners in schools who are at the cutting edge of innovation and self-evaluation;
a focus on ICT and interactive technologies for teaching, learning and assessment. All trainees will be provided with a laptop to facilitate this;
a focus on the individual needs of the trainees.

Trainees come from a very diverse set of backgrounds with widely differing pre-course experiences. Some trainees come straight from school and completion of their first degrees, whilst others have spent time in different careers and bringing up children. The SCITT prides itself on its ability to support and meet the needs of all its trainees so all trainees enjoy the course and meet their full potential.
