Trainee finances
Tuition fees and any other bursary or financial support depend on your status as a home, European Union (EU) or overseas student. Find out more information about EUor overseas status. All grants and bursaries are subject to conditions and you are not guaranteed funding, but you may be eligible for financial support as outlined below:
Bursaries from the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA)
The government’s stated desire is that they wish to encourage high quality recruits into teaching. They have therefore indicated that the following bursaries will be made available for Primary Trainees in 2012/13:
| Degree Class | Bursary |
|---|---|
| 1st | £9000 |
| 2:1 | £5000 |
| 2:2 | £0 |
As a provider our evidence indicates that many of our best trainees attained a 2:2 at degree level because they have other qualities essential to becoming an outstanding teacher. In our selection and recruitment processes we therefore still welcome applications with this standard of degree.
Tuition Fees and loans
The Leicester & Leicestershire SCITT Management Board have set the tuition fees for 2012-2013 at £8,500.
A full tuition fee loan will be available for this amount from the Student Loan Company. You would have to repay the loan when you are earning over £21,000. Full details can be found on the Directgov website:
In considering tuition fees prospective trainees should be aware of the following:
- The SCITT employment and retention rates are outstanding and significantly higher than the regional or national average. (Our average employment rate over the last 3 years is above 95%).
- Our NQT survey results are consistently rated as in the very top ITT providers’ results nationally. This indicates NQTs trained by the SCITT are virtually unanimous in feeling the SCITT offers exceptionally high quality training.
We therefore believe our tuition fees represent very good value for money as trainees within the SCITT gain from the outstanding training, support and employment prospects we offer.
