Name: Meeran Rana
Age: 24
After completing her degree in Business Studies and German from De Montfort University in Leicester, Meeran decided to apply for the Leicester and Leicestershire SCITT course when she saw it advertised on the Graduate Teacher Training Registry website.
“I've always wanted to be a teacher, ever since I was at primary school myself!”
“I was initially concerned that my background of Business might be a hindrance when applying, but I could not have been more wrong! During the course, I found that I was able to successfully use the skills I had developed during my degree, such as planning, time management, ICT and presentation skills, to enhance my teacher training experience.”
“This course appealed to me because, unlike more traditional routes into teaching, the SCITT offered an interesting combination of training modules, school based learning and block teaching practices. Having completed the course, I can confidently state that the clear link between theory and practice has been the most valuable aspect for me personally. And, as the course exposes you to the classroom environment in your very first week, you're not under any illusions about the realities of teaching”
“The year is extremely hard work and can be quite stressful at times, so you need to be very focused and dedicated if you want to succeed. I personally found the network of support on this course to be, well, very supportive! My School Based Tutor was a gem. She never made me feel like any of my questions or concerns were trivial and always did her utmost to help me out. Also, the Course Manager was never more than a phone call or e-mail away.”
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the course and can't wait until I'm let loose on my very own class after the summer! Training to teach has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have undertaken. I would whole-heartedly recommend the Leicester & Leicestershire SCITT to anyone with the ambition of making a difference to many lives by becoming a primary school teacher.”
