Applications: Entry requirements
In order to be offered a place on the SCITT course all candidates must:
have achieved a standard equivalent to GCSE grade C in English, Maths and science. No candidate will be interviewed unless the application form demonstrates they have already met these requirements.
demonstrate that they can communicate accurately and effectively in spoken and written Standard English.
have gained at least one week's experience in a British primary school. This experience must be gained before interview and must have taken place within the last three years.
demonstrate the capacity to meet all the required Standards by the end of their training and possess the appropriate personal and intellectual qualities to be teachers;
pass health and CRB checks and have the physical and mental fitness to teach;
hold a degree of a United Kingdom higher education institution or equivalent qualification. The expectation is that all candidates selected will hold at least a Second Class Honours degree (preferably 2:1 or above) or equivalent. However where there is strong supporting evidence of relevant experience, other professional qualifications, or good practice within a primary school setting, high quality applicants who hold a degree below this class may also be offered places. For example, applicants with a third class degree may be interviewed and offered a place if they have extensive experience in a primary school, supported by a very good reference from the headteacher.

All degree subjects will be considered, including subjects that are not directly linked to a National Curriculum subject.
