How this course is organised

The course runs to the same timetable as Leicester City and Leicester County Primary Schools. Within the course are three block teaching placements of 5-8 weeks duration, one teaching practice taking place in each of the primary school terms. The trainees’ responsibilities and teaching load during these placements increase as they progress through the course. All trainees will undertake block teaching placements in at least two schools, with many trainees teaching in 3 schools with contrasting features. All trainees will undertake teaching placements in both Key Stage One and Key Stage Two classes and will experience teaching across the age range within Key Stages One and Two. In total trainees will spend approximately 115 days in school.

Full Timetable

When the trainee is not on block teaching placement they will be fully timetabled with a combination of centrally based training, and school based learning days. The central training will be delivered by subject specialists to the whole cohort and will cover theoretical aspects of teaching curriculum subjects, including subject knowledge and professional aspects of teaching. School based learning days will allow trainees to directly link this theory to practice through observations and linked tasks carried out in classrooms and base schools. There are approximately 80 days of central training within the programme.

The timetable for 2010/11 is provided to give a further indication of the content and structure of the course.
